OPAC
Noise and extreme temperatures are unwanted in the buildings, being necessary to provide higher performance of thermal and acoustic insulation in construction materials used currently in building. The project OPAC is a part of the strategy of the development of new materials to improve the thermal and acoustic performance of structural ceramic products, obtained from clay baked and incorporating acoustic criteria and thermal insulation in the design and manufacture.

Amongst the tools necessary to optimize the insulating capacity of the ceramic products, there are the knowledge of the microstructure of these materials and the spread of sound inside. Specifically, control of porosity in a ceramic material, both the total number of pores present in it and its distribution, size, geometry and interconnection, is one of the key variables to favor the insulating nature of a material. This project is intended to, on the one hand, optimize and give priority to the variables that control the formation of porosity in ceramic materials, allowing the design of materials tailored for an application or specific insulation needs. This optimization of manufacturing processes will be transferred to the ceramics industry at an early stage of the project.

On the other hand, we propose the development and validation of mathematical models capable of analyzing thermal and acoustic propagation, according to factors such as the porosity of the material, the geometry of the work piece or the composition of the basic material. These mathematical models will make possible to have tools with a predictive character to optimise the performance of such materials, modifying parameters such as clays used in its manufacture or the geometry of the product itself, without need for high cost tests.

EFIKER
The EFIKER project aims to improve the development and competitiveness of the Andalusian ceramics companies through the optimization of energy production costs, which have a high impact on the final price of the product, contributing this way to the sustainable development of the sector.

We works also in the incorporation into the productive process of materials (preferably industrial waste) with calorific power, with the aim of minimising environmental impact through its utilization in the ceramic industries. Moreover, we optimize the evacuation of combustion gases in chimneys, in particular in the heat exploitation and on the reduction of particles and noxious gases containing such gases.

The objectives of EFIKER are, on the one hand, to support companies to carry out audits energy, using the available ways of financing and to provide to the sector several tools for energy optimization. On the other hand, we increase in value waste from other industrial sectors that constitute an environmental problem, through the incorporation of these in the formulation of ceramic pastes.
