Laboratory of microstructural characterization

lab02pq2The laboratory meets the following main instrumentation:

  • Microstructural characterization:
    • Scanning electron microscope JEOL JSM-610. It includes EDX analysis
    • Metallographic preparation of materials: Buehler Metaserv-250 polisher
    • Optical microscopy by reflected light. Nikon Eclipse LV100-Pol
    • Helium pycnometer. Micromeritics Accupyc II 1340
    • Mercury intrusion porosimeter. Micromeritics. Autopore TM IV Series
    • Atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Perkin Elmer AAnalyst 400, equipped with Electrodeless Discharge Lamp (EDL).
    • Particle size distribution. Micromeritics. Sedigraph 5120
  • Thermal characterization
    • Thermo-dilatometer up to 1400ºC, Linseis L76 / 1400C
    • Differential Thermal Analysis - Thermogravimetric (TG-DTA) up to 1600 ºC, Linseis STA PT1600
    • Thermal conductivity of materials by adapting the hot wire technique, Linseis THB
    • Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) up to 700°C, PT10 Linseis, for determining heat capacity
    • Heat Flow Meter (HFM) for insulating materials and concretes (-30°C to 90°C), Netzsch HFM 436
  • Acoustic Characterization
    • Impedance tube. Spectronics ACUPRO V4
    • Determination of dynamic elastic modulus (Young’s modulus) and Poisson ratio. Exciter, accelerometer and frequency analyzer. Brüel & Kjaer Pulse LAN-XI, Delta Tron
